Creating a New US Headquarters for RECOM Power Inc.

RECOM is headquartered in Gmunden Austria and they recently relocated their U.S. Headquarters from Brooklyn, NY to Arvada, Colorado. Spark Interiors was contracted to design their new U.S. headquarters.

The owners, who were in Austria, wanted the design to mirror the look of the modern furniture they had already chosen, while the president of the U.S. offices wanted us to incorporate a local flare and make the offices look unique to the Colorado location.

At the start of the project, we worked with the property manager of the building to help the client get the carpet they wanted from an outside vendor without having to pay an additional cost. We also worked with them on the space planning, the power drops, core drills, and paint scheme, so that they were executed properly as the client was managing the contractors.

The inspiration for the graphic art on the lounge glass partition came from the energy industry. The company designs and manufactures power inverters. We liked the graphic quality of the circuit board pattern, so we generated a pattern for the glass wall between the lounge and the sales floor and had it fabricated and installed by a vendor. We had the room painted green as it replicates the color of a circuit board and to give the otherwise white walls a needed a punch of color.

The artwork in the lounge is one part aesthetic and one part function. Sound dampening is an important factor in office design. With a large portion of the walls being a hard surface, we had to ensure that noise would be reduced in a space that is designated for relaxing. The felted wool panels were custom ordered not only to help to reduce noise but also to visually disrupt the bold color on the walls.

Another area that we focused on was branding at the entry. We converted their logo into a custom-made wall hung acrylic and added a modern console to display company brochures and community news.

The artwork on the wall was another area of opportunity for adding touches of color. The photos feature both Austrian and Coloradan mountain landscapes, which tactfully conveyed the synergy between the two locations. We had the photographs printed on acrylic panels and mounted them in a way that gives the appearance they are floating off the wall.
